Lara Trump Won’t Run for North Carolina Senate—Here’s What That Means for 2026

United States: Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of President Donald Trump and ex-co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), has officially stepped away from the idea of entering the Senate race in North Carolina.

In a social media announcement, she stated that she has “decided not to pursue the United States Senate seat in North Carolina at this time,” putting an end to persistent speculation about her political ambitions in the state.

In 2021, rumors circulated about Lara Trump potentially launching a Senate campaign for the 2022 election. However, she later dismissed the buzz and threw her support behind Republican Congressman Ted Budd, who went on to win the seat, as per AP News.

Lara was unanimously elected as RNC co-chair in March 2024 but stepped down from the role just months later in December. By February, she launched her own weekend show on Fox News titled “My View with Lara Trump.”

As for the upcoming 2026 Senate race, RNC Chair Michael Whatley has expressed his intent to run for the seat, according to reports from the Associated Press.
